Extra Care Housing Scheme

We are pleased to announce that Her Grace the Duchess of Northumberland officially opened our Extra Care Housing Scheme Assisi House on 14th January 2015. Assisi House is our first venture into housing and we are proud to be able to provide high quality support to the tenants 24 hours a day.

Assisi House is built into the converted St Francis of Assisi Church on Stotts Road, Walker and now holds 16 one bedroom flats, each with their own living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. The building has self contained laundry facilities and a hairdressers, with our caring staff present 24 hours a day.

The duchess said: "I am amazed at what I’ve seen today during my visit to Assisi House Extra Care. This scheme is an excellent example of how we, in the North East, look after older people with the respect they deserve. The 16 flats are a great use of a redundant church building and has been designed in a way that enables residents to maintain their independence and dignity."

To register through Tyne & Wear Homes you can do so by going to www.tyneandwearhomes.org.uk or ask your social worker to apply for you. Alternatively you can call Your Homes Newcastle on 0191 278 8600 to see if Assisi House is a suitable housing option for you.

Pre opening night 24th July 2014:

We would like to thank Bishop Seamus Cunningham: Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle Diocese for delivering a special blessing of the building on 23rd July 2014.

The event was very well attended by local parishioners, residents, counsellors and other supporters of the project who enjoyed a preview of the housing scheme prior to its completion date. Demand for the flats is very high so please contact us for information on the referral process if you, or someone you know would like to be considered as a tenant. The selection criteria is that you are aged 55+ and have care & housing needs.
